B I O G R A P H Y
My academic training was influenced by
vibrant minds and beautiful locations.
This ranged from an undergraduate
degree in History from BYU-Hawaii (2007)
to both MA and PhD degrees in
German and Film Studies from
Berkeley (2008, 2015) under the
mentorship of Anton Kaes. I also
benefited from archival research
as a visiting Fulbright Scholar
in Berlin for a year
(Freie Universität, 2012-2013),
hosted by Gertrud Koch.
My work involves historical and
theoretical approaches to
analyzing film and media.
I am particularly
interested in the ability of media
to shape and create historical and
religious experience.
With native Hawaiian roots in the
island of Oahu, I am currently
and happily
an assistant professor
in communication, media, and culture
at Brigham Young University-Hawaii.
